"CDC does not know of a virus or condition that would reanimate the dead (or one that would present zombie-like symptoms)," a CDC spokesman said in an email to The Huffington Post.
All of the recent cannibal attacks have been inflicted by living human beings on other living humans. The attacks include:
1. Rudy Eugene, Florida:
Witnesses called police upon seeing a naked Eugene, 31, eating the face of a 65-year-old homeless victim, Ronald Poppo, on a bridge in Miami on May 26. When police confronted Eugene, he allegedly "growled like a wild animal" and refused to stop. Officers shot and killed Eugene, who may have been under the influence of drugs. His victim remains in the hospital.
2. Luka Magnotta, Canada:
Police in Germany nabbed Magnotta, 29, after a two-week international manhunt. Magnotta is wanted in Canada for torturing, killing, sexually assaulting, dismembering, and eating a 33-year-old engineering student from China, Jun Lin, sometime before May 29. Magnotta allegedly posted video of the attack online, and mailed some of his victim's body parts to Canadian politicians, the New York Daily News reports.
3. Alexander Kinyua, Maryland:
Kinyua, 21, a college student in Maryland, allegedly used a knife to kill a fellow student who was staying at his home. Kinyua then ate the heart and brain of 37-year-old Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, CBS News reports. Kinyua had a history of recent violence at school, including an assault with a baseball bat that fractured a victim's skull. Kinyua was free on bail when his alleged cannibal attack took place, sometime during the week of May 21.
