FL cat returns from grave days after burial

A "miracle cat" shocked a neighborhood after getting run over by a car and buried, only to return five days later.

Bart, a 2-year-old feline, is recovering after a successful surgery Tuesday, according to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

"He was a brave boy and is now resting comfortably," the group posted on its Facebook page. "He is spending the night with our good friends at Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Service so he can be monitored. He will return to us in the morning and need a week or so to recover before going back home!"

ABC News reported Bart's owner, Ellis Hutson, discovered him lifeless and bloodied in the middle of the road. The owner said he was too heartbroken to dig the grave, so he asked a neighbor to do it for him.

They thought they put Bart in his final resting place, but he showed up in someone's yard nearly a week later. He was weak and dehydrated but very much alive, the Humane Society reported.

A veterinarian performed the surgery to repair his jaw and remove his damaged eye.

"We have seen many amazing cases at our full-service veterinary clinic, but this situation may take the cake!" the Humane Society wrote on its blog.
