Haunted Poveglia Island Sells For £400,000

Italian businessman Luigi Brugnaro has purchased what many claim is the most haunted island in existence.

The vacant Venetian island known as Poveglia Island, was put up for auction by the Italian government recently. Although most investors would consider a run down island, that once served as a mass grave for plague victims a risky investment, Brugnaro wasn’t phased.

Apparently, he was also not bothered by the over 10,000 ghosts and spirits that are believed to reside there.

The island has a dark and morbid history and has served as a mass grave, quarantine for plague victims and mental hospital..Just to name a few. It is rumored that up to 160,000 people could have been dumped into pits of corpses there.

Despite it’s reputation and history, the Italian Government hopes that the island will be converted to a luxury resort (which would bring even more money into the local area).

How soon will they be taking reservations? Probably no time soon. It is estimated that the new owner of the world’s most haunted island, will need to spend £16.25 million more, to update the old, abandoned buildings that sit on Poveglia. But when all is said and done, the world’s most haunted island, just may become the worlds most haunted hotel.
