Paranormal team investigates haunted Civil War caverns

(Grottoes, VA) A Fishersville-based organization headed down to Grottoes Grand Caverns on Sunday, all in a search for paranormal activity.

Twisted Paranormal Society Co-Founder Tonna Lotts headed inside the caverns with her team.

"It's very reassuring to be able to go to these places and confirm whether there is something there or not and just trying to help people," Lotta said.

Their team brought down equipment to search the caverns to see what they could find.

Hundreds of soldiers during the Civil War came to the caverns.

At least 200 soldiers left their signatures on the cavern's walls.

The cavern's Civil War history intrigued the paranormal team and left them with questions.

They'll have answers after they review their recordings and video.

Grottoes Parks and Recreation Specialist Lettie Stickley said the request to head down the caverns intrigued her.

"We usually try to accommodate things if it's not unreasonable, it it's not going to disturb the cave or destroy anything," Stickley said.

That's because the caverns are natural resources.

Lotts said her hobby gives her an emotional rush.

"You are so in the moment, you're not thinking about anything else around you. It's pretty awesome when you can connect with something you necessarily can't see," Lotts said. "It's actually a rush. It's pretty interesting."
