Police Unable to Explain Eerie, Rhythmic Noises Along Delaware River

Via mysteriousuniverse.org by Brett Tingley

Unexplained or otherwise mysterious hums and noises have unfortunately become part of life for people in many parts of the world. Unintended consequences of industrial processes and unknown natural phenomena are creating strange sounds worldwide, keeping residents awake, baffling acoustics experts, and generally creeping everyone out. The latest unexplained noise has turned up in New Jersey and isn’t a hum or buzz, though – it seems to be eerie, mysterious music or some sort of rhythmic pulse. What’s keeping New Jersey residents awake at night?

Police in Carneys Point, Penns Grove and Pennsville, New Jersey have been inundated with calls from concerned residents who describe a “sickening, pulsing heartbeat” which seems to be emanating from the direction of the Delaware River. Monica Morris Lind, a NJ resident who lives along the water’s edge, says the sound has drowned out all of her attempts to block it out:

The thumping came straight through our front porch to the back of our home in the kitchen. It went on until the wee hours of the morning until around 3 a.m. We turned up our television, but could not overpower the throb.

While some residents describe the noise as an annoyance, others say it’s so loud that it shakes their windows, and a few even say they can feel the rhythm in their bodies. Some of the theories for the unexplained pulsating noise include a clandestine party yacht, music played on a barge anchored somewhere in the river, or even late night car audio competitions. However, police on either side of the river have turned up no evidence of what could be making the mysterious sound.

While late night revelers or unintended sound pollution are likely causes, I always tend to wonder if seemingly harmless, anomalous events like these could be the tip of a larger, more mysterious iceberg. What is very clearly a submarine tower was just spotted in a bay alongside the Swedish capital of Stockholm, prompting a very suspicious response from the Swedish Armed Forces. In New Jersey, the bay in which these noises are being heard lies just a hundred miles or so away from Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Could a submarine lurking below the river be the cause of these noises?
