Sony to bring its Aibo robotic dog to the US

Consumers outside of Japan will finally get a chance to purchase the super-cute robotic canine companion.

Designed to look, move and behave like an actual puppy, Aibo has long been associated with the concept of a future dominated by robots, not just at work but also in the home.


The latest model, which will be available to purchase in the US from September, uses a cloud-based artificial intelligence to recognize faces, perform tricks and to develop its own unique personality.

"Aibo's charming personality, dog-like behaviors and ability to intelligently interact with family members help to create a personal bond," said Mike Fasulo of Sony Electronics North America.

With a retail price of $2,899 it certainly isn't cheap - especially for what is essentially a toy.

On the plus side though, at least you won't need to clean up after it.
