The JFK Killing: The Nuttiest Theory Of All

Via mysteriousuniverse.org by Nick Redfern

On November 22 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot and killed in Dealey Plaza, Dallas, Texas by…well…your guess is as good as mine. Lee Harvey Oswald, the Mob, the CIA, the KGB, Cubans, rogue elements in the Lyndon B. Johnson administration and many more have been suggested as the guilty party (or parties). According to the Warren Commission, it was Oswald who pulled the trigger on that deadly day. And it was only Oswald, said the Commission. Not everyone agreed with that controversial conclusion, however. Forget Oswald. JFK was killed by the man behind the wheel, in full view of the people of Dallas and in front of who knows how many cameras. At least, that was the outrageous claim of one of the most vocal conspiracy-theorists of the 1980s and 1990s. His name was Milton William “Bill” Cooper.

The man who Cooper fingered as the guilty party was William Greer, a Secret Service agent who drove the presidential limousine on the day that JFK was destined not to leave Dallas alive. When shots echoed around Dealey Plaza, Greer slowed the car down and turned back to look at the president. For Cooper, Greer’s actions were not due to confusion and panic caused by the chaos breaking out all around him. No. Cooper claimed that careful analysis of the famous footage taken by Abraham Zapruder, on the Grassy Knoll on November 22, showed Greer pointing some form of device at JFK.

That device – Cooper maintained to just about anyone and everyone who would listen – was nothing less than a sci-fi-style weapon developed by government personnel and designed to terminate with extreme prejudice. Yes, really. By the time Cooper got on his rant, which began in the late 1980s, Greer wasn’t around to defend himself. He passed away in 1985 from cancer, having retired from the Secret Service in 1966 as a result of problems caused by a stomach ulcer. In a strange piece of irony, Cooper himself died by the bullet. In the summer of 1998, he was formerly charged with tax evasion. Cooper told the government what to go and do. What the government did, on November 5, 2001, was to dispatch deputies to Cooper’s Arizona home. A shoot-out soon erupted. Cooper, like JFK, was soon full of lead.

The reason why I bring this up today is because just very recently, and after giving a lecture on the Men in Black, two people in the audience came up to me. They wanted to know what I thought about the “driver did it” theory. I’m pretty sure that I’ll be censored if I go into full-blown, expletive-filled-rant mode here at Mysterious Universe. So, instead, I will say that the story that William Greer was the killer is garbage. It’s nonsense. It’s complete rubbish. Much has been made about a certain bit of controversial footage, which is basically what Cooper used to justify his claims concerning a dead man who wasn’t able to defend himself. You can find it here: Video

You should, however, after watching that first piece of footage, watch this second film, which easily and logically explains away the controversy and blows Cooper’s claims right out of the water. Here it is: Debunked

William Greer did not shoot JFK in the head, regardless of anything that Bill Cooper ever said. End of story.
