The notorious home known as the Amityville Horror house has been on the market for a long time. Listed at prices ranging from over a million dollars, to its current tag of $850,000, the home has finally been sold.
The 1927 house is a 5,000 square-foot Dutch Colonial style building with five bedrooms, three and a half baths, a boathouse, and, according to some, a demonic presence.
The home, which sits at 112 Ocean Avenue, is the site of a grisly mass murder. In November 1974, Ronnie DeFeo, Jr., shot and killed six members of his own family in the home.
The next family that lived in 112 Ocean, the Lutzs, left abruptly after spending 28 days in the house. They claimed a range of paranormal events were taking place in the home. Reports included walls that dripped with blood, a red room that was a portal to hell, and the presence of a demonic pig. The family's experience was turned into a bestselling book, "The Amityville Horror" by author Jay Anson, and later, a successful film that spawned numerous remakes and sequels.
It's an iconic case in the world of the paranormal, and one that's filled with controversy. While some claim the entire story is false, others strongly believe that there was indeed some demonic influence in the home that caused DeFeo to commit his gruesome crimes.
Since the home has been privately owned, there have been no further reports of any kind of supernatural activity. There's also no word on who the new owners of the infamous house may be.
