When you're not actually alone and your home becomes the most terrifying place of all

Via stokesentinel.co.uk by Natasha Hardy

Paranormal Investigator Damon Simms explored the dingiest corners of some of Staffordshire's spookiest places.

Here he tells of something frightening that happened just days ago.

Many paranormal incidents I get to hear about have happened many years ago, but this week, I got the chance to meet two brothers and their sister, who had a bizarre and terrifying experience, just last month.

And then, another brush with the paranormal, just last Friday.

Teenagers Ben and Callum live in Caverswall with their mum and 9-year-old sister Sophie.

They have lived in their new family home for around a year and had settled in well.

It was a happy and comforting place to be for them all, but all that changed on one evening they will never be able to forget.

Ben had been downstairs making a late night snack.

The house was still, quiet and dark, everyone else was in bed.

He walked up the stairs and as he did, he caught sight of something from the corner of his eye.

A small, shadowy figure, the size of a child, stood ahead of him at the top of the stairs.

He assumed it was Sophie as he saw her walk into her bedroom.

Wondering why she was wandering around on the landing, Ben went into her bedroom to check on her.

As he entered her room his body went cold with fear.

He had just seen Sophie walk into the room, but it was empty – she was nowhere to be seen.

In fact, his younger sister was in his mum's room with her.

Ben just could not comprehend how he had watched someone walk into his sister's bedroom only to find it totally empty.

He went over it repeatedly in his head, only to come to the conclusion that he had just seen his first ghost.

Over the following days and weeks, Ben couldn't get it out of his head.

He was trying to get his head round what had happened.

He began to wonder whether the family had brought some kind of spirit or energy from their last house.

This seemed likely to Ben because he had a number of paranormal experiences in their old house.

On a number of occasions he had heard footsteps upstairs when he was alone in the house as well as noticing sudden temperature drops and coming across strange, unexplained smells.

He found it strange that they had lived in their new house for more than a year before anything untoward had happened.

But the family would soon find out that his experience last month was not a one-off.

In fact on Friday, Ben had his own brush with the paranormal, and this incident was undoubtedly more severe.

Callum was spending the afternoon alone in the house with his girlfriend Lauren and they were in his room, laying on the bed.

Out of nowhere the young couple heard a terrifying scream coming from downstairs, they fell silent and looked at each other.

They heard the blood-curdling scream a second time, this time louder, echoing around the empty house.

Frantically trying to rationalise what was happening, they considered that it might have been a fox which had found its way into the house.

Callum decided to go downstairs to investigate but just as he got up he froze.

They both heard loud thuds, rhythmic and repetitive, coming from downstairs.

Callum, feeling the need to protect his girlfriend, quickly ran out.

He told her to close the door and hold it shut while he was gone.

His heart was pounding as he ran down the stairs in such of whoever or whatever had made these horrible sounds.

Meanwhile Lauren, also shaking tried to keep the door closed, wishing Callum was back in the room with her.

She heard footsteps on the landing and she breathed a sigh of relief at the thought that her boyfriend was coming back to look after her.

She shouted out but Callum didn't shout back.

She shouted again but her voice broke in fear.

To her horror, she felt the door being pushed violently towards her.

She was pushed back, something was trying to get in.

She fell back and saw absolutely nobody behind the door.

Terrified, she screamed for Callum who rushed up the stairs.

Callum tried to comfort her as she was telling him about her ordeal.

The pair were both immensely upset by what had happened in their home that night and they spent the rest of the night kept awake by pure fear.

This experience is a reminder to us all that the paranormal may not be as far away as we think and that a brush with the supernatural could happen at any time.
