The House on the Hill is an old Victorian mansion once owned by lumber baron Frederick Weyerhaeuser. It sits on the campus of Augustana College in Rock Island and is said to be haunted.

It's been reported that past residents of the house, which still is used for both public functions and as a student housing, have reported strange occurrences in the house.

A door locked for many years suddenly appears mysteriously ajar while showers gush water in the middle of the night and antiques of the house are strangely rearranged. All are among the unexplained incidents that have reportedly occurred over the years.

There have also been reports of radios going off in the middle of the night.

Legend has it that Apollonia Weyerhaeuser-Davis, daughter of past owners, haunts the house casting a "protective spirit."

In 2012, the Rock Island-based Illinois Paranormal Research Group visited Augustana's House on the Hill. Here's what they found.

It's not the only place on campus or the Quad-Cities that is said to be haunted. Andreen Hall has had it's share of reported eerie goings-on.

Across the Mississippi River, both St. Ambrose University and Palmer College have made the "haunted" lists on the internet. Flickering, moving lights have been reported in Ambrose Hall while a lecture hall at Palmer is said to be haunted by ghosts who fly around the ceiling, making the hanging lamps sway.

So as Ripley would say: "Believe it, or not."
