Did a Devon psychic solve the Genette Tate case? Medium claims she drew picture of the killer in 1994

Most police forces dismiss the notion of psychic assistance in murder cases.

In response to a nationwide enquiry 28 British police forces all denied that they used paranormal assistance in solving cases.

Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, for example, stated for the record that they do not use the services of psychics and that any persons offering such services are routinely declined.

But have they been making a mistake?

While there are innumerable cases of well-meaning individuals contacting the police with wildly inaccurate ‘revelations’ that came to them in a dream there have been a few examples of remarkably accurate predictions.

And it seems as if there may have been another in the case of the 1978 disappearance of Genette Tate.

Genette’s abduction remains officially unsolved. On the 25th anniversary of the case in 2003, Genette's parents John and Sheila said that they no longer expected to see her alive.

But following the 2011 conviction of serial killer Robert Black for offences which a judge described as “unlikely ever to be forgotten and which represent a man at his most vile”, a spokesman for the Police Service of Northern Ireland remarked that "there are striking similarities" between Genette's disappearance and Black’s crimes.

Black was investigated by Devon and Cornwall Police about the Tate case, but in August 2008 the Crown Prosecution Service decided that there was insufficient evidence to charge him.

In recent months there was fresh movement towards prosecuting Black for Genette’s murder but his death in January of this year put paid to that.

However, in 1994 clairvoyant Carol Everett handed a picture to police that closely resembles the serial killer. She claims that she was visited by the spirit of a girl who wanted her help.

But she says she was ignored and her drawings dismissed by Devon and Cornwall Police - despite the fact that later police investigations indicated that Black could well have been involved in the kidnap and probable murder of the Devon newspapergirl.

Carol feels that if police had taken her drawings more seriously at the time Black could have been brought to justice decades earlier.

She has now released her pictures publicly and says the recent revelations about the child murderer "confirm the accuracy" of her drawing.

"I knew she was dead and then I got more information through," she said.

"I had a vision of Genette Tate - the girl looked sad and I felt agitated.

"After she disappeared I shut my eyes and drew this image of what looked like her at first.

"Then I started to change what I was drawing and it looked like him [Robert Black].

"I handed it to the police who didn't do anything but I brought it up with them years later.

"In January when I heard the news I saw her again and she seemed grateful.

"When you meditate on a particular case, you are asking for information and sometimes stuff comes through.

"Quite often I put in a few missing links. I don't say I know everything, I just seem to be able to put missing links in.”

Compared side by side, the two images are remarkably alike. Both men have similar bald patches, beard and moustaches and marked similarities in their facial features.

The police have said they acknowledged the drawings were received but were not willing to comment on why no action was taken at the time they were submitted.

Carol, of Crediton, Devon, has claimed her psychic abilities have been "scientifically tested" and she has even diagnosed the medical condition of a woman she has never met before.

Scottish-born Black was convicted of four child murders in the 1980s but police suspect that he may have been responsible for many more deaths.

He died in Maghaberry Prison in Northern Ireland in January while serving 12 life sentences.
