Drivers find road blocked by a Triceratops

Via telegraph.co.uk by Helena Horton

'Drunken hooligans' have been blamed in a dinosaur abduction in the Isle of Wight.

A model triceratops was dragged from its home in the Jurassic Garden in the village of Godshill and dumped in the middle of the street.

Owner of the model beast, Martin Simpson, said he was shocked to see the model appearing on social media over the weekend.

The dinosaur is part of Mr Simpson's shop garden, where he sells prehistoric gems and fossils.

He said: "It takes about five blokes to move the dinosaur a couple of inches, so it was definitely a concerted effort and drink was probably involved."

Mr Simpson said he was going to secure the dinosaur to the ground in order to ensure it will not happen again.

Staff from Island Roads, which operates road maintenance on the island, returned the triceratops to his home in the Jurassic Garden.

This garden is a tourist highlight of the island, featuring model dinosaurs such as the abduction victim.

A spokesperson for Island Roads told the BBCs: "Three of our staff attended the scene and placed it back into the garden from where it had been removed.

"The road was reopened within a short period of our arrival on site."

Locals enjoyed the event.

Chris Hollingshead posted a photo to Facebook, writing: "That priceless moment when you're driving home from work at 3am and the road is blocked by a 20ft Triceratops!!! #godblessbeer #someoneneedsamedal"
