The Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka has proposed a total ban on astrology related content on Kannada TV channels.
he move is aimed at tackling superstition being propagated by astrologers on TV.
"Every TV channel wants to air astrology-based shows in Karnataka. There seem to be many viewers for them. In my home too, the scenario is no different. It's time we banned such shows," Siddaramaiah said on Monday.
Even though the government had planned a similar legislation in 2013, it was never implemented due to pressure from various corners including channels themselves. Most of the channels in Karnataka have regular astrology related programmes which have high ratings.
