Discovery made in hunt for Nazi gold train

Via unexplained-mysteries.com

Officials have hinted at a 'significant find' in the hunt for the lost Nazi gold train in Poland.

The excitement surrounding the alleged discovery of the train, which was said to have disappeared in 1945 just as the Soviets were advancing on Poland, began just over a week ago when two men came forward to claim that they had located the locomotive's whereabouts near Walbrzych.

Since then the area has become a hive of activity with hundreds of reporters and amateur treasure hunters descending on the city in an effort to get to the bottom of the mystery.

So many have turned up in fact that authorities have since cordoned off the area where the train is believed to be located and a request has gone out to warn people to stay away in case the locomotive is rigged with land mines.

"Unofficial information" quoted in the local press has suggested that the train can be found inside a secret tunnel that exists next to an active railway to the north of Walbrzych.

It isn't yet clear however whether the locomotive is actually the one that everyone is looking for.

"We are still waiting for the facts to be established but we very much hope that it this is a legitimate find," said Jerome Hasler, head of communications and strategy for the Art Recovery Group.

"Not only would this train present great historical significance, but all opportunities to identify and restitute property looted during the Nazi era must be welcomed."

"If the find is confirmed, we encourage the Polish authorities to share information about any works of art recovered so that any restitution efforts can begin in earnest."
