Paradelphia hosts to conduct live Ouija board session

Many of those who are interested in the paranormal set no boundaries on their curiosity, whether the subject is ghosts, aliens, or psychics.

Doug Hogate Jr., founder and CEO of Jersey Unique Minds Paranormal Society, explores all areas of the strange and mysterious, but has never used a Ouija board.

But that all changed on March 19.

As co-host of Paradelphia Radio on Toxic Network, Hogate recently posed the idea of testing out a Ouija board live on the air during the weekly internet radio show.

While he prepared for the experiment prior to the live show, he shared some of his thoughts about the Ouija board.

"People are either scared to death of them or curious about them," he said of Ouija boards. "It's just a piece of board created as a toy, but people started having experiences with them and now it's said to be a portal or a gateway to hell."

Hogate is in no way mocking the legend of the strange board, but said he needs to experience the phenomenon for himself.

"I don't encourage anyone to use one, just like I don't encourage anyone to go into a building and conduct an EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) session unless you know what you're doing," he said. "When we go in as investigators, we know what to do and what to say. And we know how to close that connection."

Hogate, along with Pardelphia Radio host Rick Prewitt and co-host Nick Abrams, will sit down in the studio, place their fingers lightly on the planchette and open themselves up to the board.

"The reason why we're testing it is because we want to see what it's all about," Hogate said. "None of us have ever used one, so we want to see - will it do something or will it not?"

Even though this will be the first time using a Ouija for everyone involved, Hogate said they have done their research and will take every precaution necessary - just in case.

Sara Lowell of S&D Paranormal will be onhand for the Ouija session to record any activity that may occur.

"Sara is going to set up equipment to record anything that happens while we're doing it," Hogate said.

A paranormal investigator since 2008, Hogate said he plans to approach the Ouija board session just as he would a supposed haunting at a home or historic location.

"The same with anything else, I won't know if it's real until I'm physically there doing it. It's the same as if the REM pod goes off, or we get a K2 hit," he said, mentioning two pieces of investigative equipment. "If I'm not there to see it, I want to know exactly what was going on at the time. What could have caused it?"

And what will he do if the planchette begins to move on it's own?

"I'm going to want to find out more," he said. "Just like at an investigation, if we get a hit, I'll encourage it to do something else - make a noise, move an object - get other evidence to back it up."

The live Ouija board session will be available via podcast at www.paradelphia.com or www.toxicradio.net.
