Fans of the paranormal will descend on Buckley next month as they go in search of ghosts and ghouls at the historic Tivoli theatre.
According to legend, the popular music venue, which has played home to the likes of Oasis, Sabbath and Led Zepplin, is haunted by tales of murder and scandalous secrets.
A female medium claims to have been attacked by the spirit of an executioner who is said to roam between the men’s toilets and long bar cellar, and the eerie image of a hanging man was caught on CCTV by staff.
Taps in the building are also said to have a mind of their own, bottles have been known to fly from the fridges and ghostly figures have been spotted on the stairs.
On March 5, Simply Paranormal’s team of investigators will take wannabe ghost hunters on a tour of the Flintshire nightspot, and will carry out a series of experiments including Ouija Board, Glass Divination and Table Tipping as well as vigils and seances.
The event will run through the witching hours from 9pm-4am and costs £45 a ticket.
Venue manager Leighton Openshaw claims to have experienced the hauntings first-hand and says he believes the place is full of paranormal beings, each with their own story to tell.
He said: “I was in the old Dejavu room, which is now a dressing room, I was up there alone but I know there were a few guys downstairs.
“As I was walking away from the bar, glass came flying past me, I remember thinking “what the hell was that!”
“At first I thought it was one of the others but I was up there alone, and the steps in the building are metal and loud so I would’ve heard someone coming up or running back down them.
“Even to this day I can’t explain it.”
The Tivoli Theatre was built in the 1920s on the site of the former Central Hall.
It is said that in 1946, a projectionist died after being caught in a fire in the projection room. Rumour has it that he was purposely locked in by the person who started the fire.
Leighton says that last Hallowe’en, a tour of the old burnt-out theatre turned into a “firework show”.
He added: “Up there hasn’t been touched since the fire, it’s pitch black, but when we were up there it was like a fireworks show with random flashes of light.”
The venue’s ghostly goings on have also attracted attention from television show Most Haunted. Film crews visited the venue in November and the Tivoli will feature in the first episode of the programme’s new series later this spring.
