Real-life Hogwarts opens its doors in Poland

Waking up every morning checking to see if your Hogwarts acceptance letter has arrived can prove to be rather disappointing. But not to worry, Harry Potter fans now have the opportunity to attend a different wizardry school early next year.

Polish company Liveform and Rollespilsfabrikken staged a Live Action Role Play event based on the Harry Potter book series and movie franchise in November. Around 190 participants from 11 countries travelled to Poland to don wizard robes and cast spells at the Czocha College of Witchcraft and Wizardry - and places sold out in just two days.

Rather than creating an exact replica of Hogwarts, organisers decided to invent a new school based on the famous wizarding school that Harry Ron and Hermoine attended, at the Polish castle of Czocha.

Students are sorted into five houses (Durentius, Faust, Libussa, Molin and Sendivogius), rather than the four that fans are used to. There are three years of students, Juniors, Sophomores and Seniors and all are offered a choice from five career paths: Aurors, Curse Breakers, Healers, Magizoologists and The Unspeakables.

The organiser’s website states that “It's essentially the same as when kids use curtains as robes and sticks as wands and run around pretending to be witches and wizards - except we're grownups with nicer costumes and a lot of experience in designing interactive experiences for each other”.

The four day event costs approximately £220 and prices are inclusive of food and accommodation. You are also provided with a wizard robe, a study book and a house tie during your stay and these can be purchased if you’d like to keep them as souvenirs.
