What's going on in 'haunted' Cheltenham pub?
Ghosthunters spent the night in a possibly-haunted Cheltenham pub.
And they seem to have come away with evidence of something odd going on.
The group Days Gone By in Cheltenham got in touch with Del Barnes, the landlord of the St George’s Vaults in St George’s Place in Cheltenham having seen a story in The Echo about how he is convinced it’s haunted.
Del said: “They got in touch with me and asked if they could spend the night in the basement. It used to be the cells from the police station next door and people would be taken away from here to be hanged in Gloucester.
“They came with video camera and there were a coupe of things that happened. I’ve got glasses, the one with handles, hanging up and they were moving without being touched.”
Pete Brown is a member of the ghosthunter and paranormal investigations group.
He was fairly downbeat about the results of the night spent in a cold pub basement in December.
He said: “I don’t know that there was that much going on down there. Not as much as we’d hope anyway.
“There was a little something, there were the glasses moving and Debbie the barmaid swears that someone pinched her bottom when there was no-one nearby, but I don’t know about that.
“I would have hoped to have felt a cold presence, you can sense a temperature drop often when something is about and we didn’t see anything visual or much paranormal activity without human interference.
“We took video cameras and still camera down there but we didn’t get any visual evidence, so it was a little disappointing.
“I think whatever’s there has to go into the undecided file, the unexplained file.”
Whatever it is Mr Barnes remains convinced that his pub is the haunt of ghostly presences.
He said: “One time a few years back my friend and I were having a bit of a late session, putting the world to rights, and I saw a man in a tweed jacket walk through the wall. There used to be a door here in the olden days.
“I didn’t say anything and a few minutes later he turned to me and said:’Did you just see what I’ve just seen?’ and I said ‘Yes, I did, but I didn’t want to say anything in case you thought I was a nutter.’ and he said the same thing. We were both afraid to say something but we both saw it.”
