Crabzilla spotted!

Crabzilla has emerged from the depths and appeared on Whitstable's shores again - lurking metres from two young boys fishing.

The 'giant crab', which has been dismissed as a hoax by experts, was spotted in aerial photographs close to the shores of Whistable last year.

Dwarfing nearby fishing boats, the unnerving image in a popular crabbing spot prompted residents to scuttle away in fear.

But the tale appears to have done little to put off these keen fishermen.

Some have claimed the image could easily have been photoshopped - and the naysayers are likely to surface again following the crustacean's latest 'appearance'.

The second image above shows a fearsome claw and part of the crab's body, which would measure 50ft wide and be 10 times as big as Britain's largest crab.

It appeared on the Weird Whitstable website which said in a statement: "This shocking image of a giant crab under a popular crabbing spot in Whitstable was taken in July.

"The boys were unaware of the danger, but as several passers-by shouted to them, the crab slipped silently away under the water into the dark, sideways."

The world's largest recorded crab  is the Japanese spider crab, a species which can grow to around 12ft and weigh up to three stone.

A hoax or not, the people of Whitstable may be best advised not to go back in the water just yet.
