Haunting tales surround old Edwards School

Despite the school being abandoned for over ten years it seems that not everyone has left the building.

The Elizabeth V. Edwards School in New Jersey opened in 1930 and served as both an elementary school and a high school until its closure in 2004. Tales of a ghostly presence have surrounded the building for years, but it wasn't until it fell in to disuse that it would go on to cement its haunted reputation.

Maintenance coordinator Arte Walshe is just one of the staff members to have witnessed something unusual in the school.

During a routine visit to the building he once observed what he described as a translucent woman wearing a floral print dress. On a separate occasion he witnessed the same apparition again with a second indistinct figure wearing khaki pants next to her. "I believe I saw Ms. Edwards," he said.

Transportation and security coordinator Bill Cox also experienced something unexplained one night when he went to the old Board of Education office near the school at 2 a.m. to investigate an alarm that had been triggered. As he was leaving he noticed that the second-floor lights were turned on in the main building but decided to come back the next day as it was late and the weather was bad.

When he returned he went up to the rooms in which the lights had been turned on and found that none of the light fittings had bulbs in them - all the bulbs were instead piled up on the floor.

It turned out that the bulbs had been removed over a week before and hadn't been touched since.
