Satanists organize rally in support of Florida governor Rick Scott

Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s stance on religious liberty likely won accolades from conservative Evangelicals, but he was probably not expecting to be lauded by Satanists as well.

Yet a group of Satanists in the Sunshine State will actually hold a rally in support of Scott on Jan. 25, reported Politicker.

The rally is meant to show solidarity with the governor specifically due to his support for a bill passed July 2012 that “allows an inspirational message to be delivered by students at a student assembly.”

The group’s spokesperson, Lucian Graves, told Politicker that the organization was not necessarily in favor of the governor’s other policies but supports the bill. It does not specifically mention prayer, but the bill’s sponsor specifically cited the issue of prayer when discussing the measure.

The group’s website says of its beliefs, “Because God cannot intervene in the material world, He created Satan to preside over the universe as His proxy. Satan has the compassion and wisdom of an angel.”
