KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Michael J. Kouri is an investigator, of the paranormal. He says he can see spirits, and communicate with them about the past, the present and the future.
Kouri was in Knoxville, investigating haunted sights for his next book. One of the first stops he made was at the Bleak House on Kingston Pike in Knoxville.
"I'm feeling a lot of spirits in this house," Kouri said immediately after going inside. "I can actually see spirits, converse with them, communicate back and forth."
Kouri lead a group of 13 die-hard ghost adventurers on a journey with him. He says there are spirits that haunt the Bleak House, and he was able to help the tour experience what he does. Those on the journey with him say they were able to feel things that they really couldn't explain.
"I just felt like I was being compressed, real tight, like a weight was being put on me," said Lisa Myers about her experience.
Lisa Cope had a different reaction.
"In two or three of the rooms, chill bumps, arms standing up on the arms. I have not seen any aberrations, but I have some chill bumps in the rooms," said Cope. "It's amazing to know that people have the ability that he has to see and hear and feel all the things that he does."
"You are in a very real haunted house," Kouri told the group.
Kouri says the spirits that haunt Bleak House are not out to harm any one. His communication with the spirits tell him that those living there have returned from a past life, to a place they found comfort, in their own home.
"But they're not negative, they're probably the people who lived in this house from the time it was built," said Kouri. "Part of what I do is I try to contact these spirits try to find out why they're still here on the plane, why they haven't moved on after death to where ever it is we go after we die to help them make peace with those memories so they can release and they can move forward."
Kouri believes that some of the spirits in Bleak House are there from a time of war. Some of which he says are still there protecting the house just as they did during the Civil War.
Kouri says what he's able to see and hear is different from what is shown on the Hollywood big screen. He says the movies aren't real but what he is able to see is and it is much different.
"What they do is try to change the stories to make them more dramatic, more dynamic, you know higher ratings but that's not what we do who work in the paranormal field," said Kouri.
Kouri wouldn't reveal everything he experienced in Knoxville. He says he will tell more in a book he plans on writing about the ghost stories in Knoxville. He also plans on writing a blog on his website.
