On Sunday, February 26th, 2012, a helium weather balloon was launched into the stratosphere above Los Angeles, California. Suspended from the balloon were 6 GoPro HDHERO2 hi-def cameras, including a pair of 3D configurations. Also aboard the rig was a model of the Argo, the fabled ship from the anime series "Star Blazers" (original titled "Space Battleship Yamato" in Japan). This project marked the first 3D footage ever filmed from a high altitude weather balloon, and in the stratosphere.
