Covina Poltergeist

Paranormal.About.com-- My husband and I had just rented a three-bedroom home in 1983. My friend recommended us to her landlord, and I didn't realize at the time the reason my friend was getting another house. She mentioned that her children were always scared and that no one had lived there for more than two years. It was at the very end of a quiet cul-de-sac in Covina, California. I soon found out that something very strange was going on there, and there was definitely an entity present.

I had a purse that had a flat bottom, but every time I would set it down, I would come back to find it on the floor. I lost a makeup brush, and my five-year-old daughter told me she took it outside and lost it. One evening I was cleaning salad and felt a stinging on my back. I turned around and finding no one there, I turned back to the lettuce -- and there was the brush on top of the lettuce in the drainer!

Another time, my husband put together a six-piece mirror on our dining room wall. The next morning, the left bottom piece had fallen on a tiny wooden ledge that stuck out maybe one inch from the wall. He put it back only to find it the same way the next morning, balanced on the tiny ledge. He then glued it to the wall, but the next morning we could see where something had tried to pry it out and a corner was chipped. It stayed that way for seven years.

My daughter announced to me one day that she was able to fly. She said she was standing on the top bunk bed then she began walking on the foot board. She started to fall backward, but unseen hands lifted her and levitated her over the bed. When I called to her, the force let her down onto the bed.

From the moment these things started happening, I felt as though it was a female child. It wasn't doing menacing things. In fact, it had nudged me to wake up one Sunday to go to church, when I had forgotten to set the alarm.

My husband had a restless sleep one night and he looked from our bedroom into the hallway. There was a young girl, possibly 8-10 years old, standing in the hallway looking back at him. He blinked his eyes and she vanished. My daughter had an imaginary friend named Penelope. I wonder if that was her name.

My sister-in-law said if I open the Bible to a certain verse, the spirit would leave. I did that and there was no more activity after that, but I think she moved next door, because strange things started happening at the elderly neighbor's house. Their grandchildren's portrait, which hung over their fireplace, flew off the wall and landed in the living room.

There were quite a few more things that happened with this entity, but as I said it was not menacing or evil, so I was not that scared.
