ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Parks and state police are investigating the death of a man whose body was spotted floating next to his personal watercraft at Elephant Butte.
Authorities say a park visitor who was boating Thursday evening recovered the body of the 61-year-old man at the southern New Mexico lake. Officers responded but efforts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.
The man was wearing a lifejacket. His name hasn't been released, and a cause of death has not been determined.
State Parks director Dave Simon called the incident a tragic loss and extended his sympathy to the man's family and friends.
