UFO spaceship orbiting the sun, or a camera glitch?

UFO hunters have spotted a curious object near the sun in a new NASA image. It is, in the words of a blogger for the website Gather, "what looks like a metallic, jointed spaceship with a gigantic extension, perhaps a boom arm, anchored off its lower end."

The YouTube video drawing attention to the object has quickly made its way to discussion forums and the tabloid press, and many seasoned UFO believers are calling it a definite "spot."

But does this image, which was taken by a camera on board NASA's Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) on Tuesday (April 24), really show a spaceship dropping by the sun to harvest some solar energy, as one YouTube commenter suggested? Or is this object something much more mundane? We asked scientists in the solar physics branch at the United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) — the group that analyzes data from Lasco 2, the telescopic camera that snapped the picture.

Syfy Orders Six New Reality Series

At their upfront presentation in New York last week, Syfy announced that they had ordered six new reality series: Paranormal Highway, School Spirits, Ghost Mine, Viral Video Showdown, Collection Intervention and Hot Set.

Paranormal Highway – Set to premiere in June, Paranormal Highway puts the pedal to the metal as Jack Osbourne and Dana Workman investigate the most frightening claims of paranormal activity along America’s remote back roads. Fueled by eyewitness interviews and evidence collected by state-of-the-art equipment, Jack and Dana will travel alone, self-documenting their harrowing road trip while coming face-to-face with paranormal legends. The series is produced by BASE Productions, with John Brenkus, Mickey Stern and Ron Ziskin serving as executive producers.

School Spirits – Also set to premiere in June, School Spirits will tell true ghost stories of hauntings that have happened at schools across the country. The stories will be told in first person narratives through the testimonials of real students, teachers, parents and staff that have encountered the paranormal activity, blended with bone-chilling cinematic reenactments to further bring the haunting experiences to life.

Ghost Mine – In the remote woods of Oregon lays one of the richest gold mines in the United States. For the last 100 years, it has remained abandoned…until now. Soon to be re-opened by a scraggly group of miners, these hardy souls will battle the elements to find their fortune. But with a rich history of paranormal activity surrounding the mine, they may just find something else. The series is produced by 51 Minds, with Mark Cronin serving as the executive producer.

Viral Video Showdown – The greatest viral video creators on the planet go head-to-head each week in an epic battle for bragging rights and a cash prize. Two teams will have to dig deep into their bag of viral tricks to create a video that best captures that week’s theme and impresses the expert panel of viral video judges. Viral Video Showdown is produced by 495 Productions, with SallyAnn Salsano and Kevin Pereira serving as executive producers.

Collection Intervention – The series follows Elyse Luray, a sharp and to-the-point collectibles expert as she helps couples who are divided over what to do with an overwhelming collection of memorabilia. JOE action figures worth thousands of dollars or a girlfriend’s treasure trove of Star Wars movie posters, Elyse helps couples decide what’s worth keeping and what they can sell. For each couple, their new cash windfall will make their dream come true, whether it’s an engagement ring, a down payment for a home, or the honeymoon they never had. Collection Intervention is produced by High Noon Entertainment. with Pam Healey, Elizabeth Grizzle Voorhees, and Jim Berger serving as executive producers.

Hot Set – From the producers of Syfy’s hit series Face Off, Hot Set is an extreme design challenge pitting two Hollywood production designers each week in a head-to-head battle to design, build, decorate and ultimately create an original and signature movie set that transports the viewer into an immersive world. The series is produced by Mission Control Media, wirh Michael Agbabian and Dwight Smith serving as executive producers.

The Trust Molecule

Could a single molecule—one chemical substance—lie at the very center of our moral lives?

Research that I have done over the past decade suggests that a chemical messenger called oxytocin accounts for why some people give freely of themselves and others are coldhearted louts, why some people cheat and steal and others you can trust with your life, why some husbands are more faithful than others, and why women tend to be nicer and more generous than men. In our blood and in the brain, oxytocin appears to be the chemical elixir that creates bonds of trust not just in our intimate relationships but also in our business dealings, in politics and in society at large.

Known primarily as a female reproductive hormone, oxytocin controls contractions during labor, which is where many women encounter it as Pitocin, the synthetic version that doctors inject in expectant mothers to induce delivery. Oxytocin is also responsible for the calm, focused attention that mothers lavish on their babies while breast-feeding. And it is abundant, too, on wedding nights (we hope) because it helps to create the warm glow that both women and men feel during sex, a massage or even a hug.

Meteor hunters strike pay dirt

COLOMA-LOTUS VALLEY, Calif — In the week since a fireball shot across the sky and exploded, scattering a rare type of meteorite over California's Gold Country, these hills have drawn a new rush of treasure seekers.

Once again there are lively saloons, fortune hunters jockeying for prime spots and astounding tales of luck — including that of Brenda Salveson, a local who found a valuable space rock while walking her dog Sheldon, named after the theoretical physicist on the TV show "The Big Bang Theory."

It started April 22, Earth Day, with a blazing streak across a morning sky and a sonic boom that the next day had the older women in the "Gentle Stretching to Beautiful Music" class at Sierra Ballet comparing notes on how hard their windows shook.

Swiss woman starves to death on daylight diet

A SWISS woman starved to death after believing she could survive on light alone.

The woman embarked on the diet after watching the controversial 2010 documentary film "In the beginning there was light," newspaper Tages Anzeiger said today.

The movie centres on Swiss chemistry doctor Michael Werner, 62, and 83-year-old Indian yogi Prahlad Jani, who both claim to derive sustenance from spiritual means rather than the intake of food - a concept also known as breatharianism.

Werner claims to have lived without food since 2001, while Jani told the documentary of how he had lived for 70 years not only without food, but also without water.

The woman, from the east of Switzerland, saw the movie and decided to try to survive entirely on light, preparing for the process by reading a book by Australian breatharian Ellen Greve, who goes by the name Jasmuheen.

In line with the book, the Swiss woman, who was in her early 50s, did not eat or drink anything for a week - and even spat out her saliva - before resuming drinking in the second and third weeks.

She reassured her concerned children that she would stop fasting if it became dangerous but she was found dead by them at her home last winter.

An autopsy showed that she died of starvation, ruling out any other contribution to the cause of death, the newspaper reported.

This was the fourth known death linked to breatharianism and Jasmuheen's books since the practice emerged in the early 90s.

Ontario witnesses observe UFO enter inter-dimensional doorway

An Ontario witness suggests that some UFOs may be inter-dimensional rather than 'extraterrestrial'. What do you think? As background, Dr. John Lash has documented ancient Pagan Gnostic insights on the archons -- lower dimensional artificial life forms.

An Ontario, Canada witness reports seeing a UFO enter into an apparent inter-dimensional doorway on 28 April 2012 according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness reports he is in a part of Ontario, Canada, where he had observed UFOs on a daily basis for the last two years.

“This report page does not give much leeway -- It is suited for one particular sighting and I wanted to report multiple sightings on almost a daily/nightly basis for the last year or two. Where I live has become a virtual hotbed for UFO sightings.”

The witness with a companion(s) have been observing UFO sightings nightly. These have included sightings with a blinding light.
