Titanoboa: New York's Grand Central Terminal Displays Model Of Biggest Snake Ever

Titanoboa, the biggest snake that ever lived, is taking a bite out of the Big Apple.
Well, not quite. But a scientifically realistic, life-sized model of the long-extinct serpent has taken up residence in New York City' Grand Central Terminal. The model represents a 48-foot titanoboa that would have weighed a ton and a half, according to a written statement issued by the Smithsonian Channel.
The channel is scheduled to premiere Titanoboa: Monster Snake, a two-hour special about the colossal constrictor, on Sunday, April 1 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

His earliest stories have their roots in the Gothic novel and in the short fiction of Edgar Allan Poe.
Dagon, from 1917, is typical Lovecraft. The narrator is cast ashore on an island raised by an underwater earthquake and glimpses a giant survivor of the race which built a monolith there - froglike and fishlike, yet "damnably human".

James Bamford joins us now from London, England. His article in Wired is called "The NSA Is Building the Country’s Biggest Spy Center (Watch What You Say)." Jim Bamford is an investigative journalist who’s been covering the National Security Agency for the last three decades. He came close to standing trial after revealing the NSA’s operations in an explosive 1982 book called The Puzzle Palace. His latest book is the last in his trilogy on the NSA; it’s called The Shadow Factory: The Ultra-Secret NSA from 9/11 to the Eavesdropping on America.

Hoax! Human Flying Like a Bird Revealed

The man who claimed to achieve bird-like flight with a custom-built contraption came clean today: It was a hoax 8 months in the making.

Netherlands artist Floris Kaayk, who went by the name of Jarno Smeets during his “Human Birdwings” project, admitted to the hoax today on a Dutch television program called “De Wereld Draait Door” (“The World is Turning”).

“My name is Floris Kaayk I’m actually a filmmaker and animator. I am now 8 months working on an experiment about online media,” Kaayk told the show, according to a Dutch-to-English translation in a YouTube video. Kaayk said he pulled off the hoax because “it’s everybody’s dream to fly.”

Kaayk was born in Tiel in the Netherlands in 1982. He’s been living in The Hague, where the faked bird-man stunt took place over the weekend.

Seismologists seeking source of mysterious booms

The mysterious booms have captured the attention of national media, including reporters from CNN, NBC andThe New York Times who swarmed a public hearing Wednesday when city administrator Lisa Kuss announced the city will spend $7,000 to hire Waukesha, Wis.-based engineering firm Ruekert & Mielke, which will place four seismometers around the city.

If the firm finds the epicenter, the next step will be to pinpoint the depth and what is causing it. The cause is likely only a couple hundred feet under the earth's surface, Kuss said.

"It's possible we'll never have a definitive answer," Kuss told about 400 residents at the Clintonville High School auditorium.

The sounds began Sunday and reports to police since then have come in from across the city of 4,600 residents.

Forgotten Places: HellTown Ohio

What can you say about a place called Helltown? Helltown is one of Ohio’s most famous horror/supernatural legends. It’s a good example of the way folklore can get really complicated. There is no single haunted farmhouse, no headless train conductor, or ghostly children running around in the woods. Helltown is home to six or seven separate legends, each with dozens of variations. All of which has led this area in Boston Township to be grouped as one haunted site and given an evil-sounding name.
Helltown is actually the northern part of Summit County, encompassing several towns, including Boston, Boston Township, Peninsula, Sagamore Hills, and Northfield Township. The area is often referred to as Boston Mills.
