Preparations for the April 30 launch of the SpaceX’s Dragon commercial spacecraft to the International Space Station (ISS) are underway without major problems, a top NASA official said Tuesday.
“The simulations are taking place, I don’t know about big drivers right now, only of what they have to do between now and launch day,” said NASA Space Station manager Mike Suffredini.
There is “a lot of work to do between now and April 30, but their schedule supports it as we see it today,” he added.
Suffredini downplayed the importance of the launch, stressing the “need to be careful not to assume that the success or failure of commercial spaceflight is going to hang in the balance of a single flight.”
SpaceX spokeswoman Kirstin Grantham said in a statement that NASA had not granted final approval of the launch date, and would do so only after completion of the “Flight Readiness Review, currently expected to occur on April 16.”
If the commercial SpaceX team did encounter obstacles, Suffredini said it would be “the kind of thing you experience in this difficult process of not only trying to launch into low Earth orbit, but do the next-hardest thing which is to try to rendezvous safely with another spacecraft in orbit.”
The Dragon spacecraft launch would be the first-ever attempt by a private company to dock at the orbiting lab.

CYBERWAR:NSA chief denies allegations of Big Brother machine in Utah

Allegations that the U.S. National Security Agency is building a type of Big Brother machine in Utah that can access all electronic communications have officially been denied by the agency’s director, who came under scrutiny by members of Congress on Tuesday.
Responding to the recent report by Wired author James Bamford, one of the leading journalists on NSA affairs, General Keith Alexander insisted that no matter what Bamford’s insider sources might claim, the NSA is not able to spy on the communications of American citizens.
Published last week, Bamford’s story rips open alleged plans to build a data center in Utah equipped with the most advanced spy tech in history. His sources claimed it essentially represents the resurrection of the “Total Information Awareness” program that Congress killed in 2003.
The center will allegedly be capable of breaking almost any encryption, reading any email and recording any phone call anywhere in the world, even if it’s not made over the Internet. A network of ultra-sensitive satellites enhance the center’s intelligence-finding capabilities with the unique ability to sniff electronic communications from a massive distance.

Mysterious ‘zombie’ disease afflicts thousands of Ugandan children

Agnes Apio has to tie up her son Francis before she can leave the house. In his state, he is a danger to himself. Where once he walked and talked like a normal child, now he is only able to drag himself along in the dirt. Francis is suffering from “Nodding Disease,” a brain disorder that, according to CNN, afflicts at least 3,000 children in northern Uganda, leaving them physically stunted and severely mentally disabled.
“I feel dark in my heart,” Apio says as waves flies away from her son’s face and mops up his urine after a seizure, “This boy has become nothing.”
“Reportedly the children gnaw at their fabric restraints, like a rabid animals,” says The Daily Tech.  The article calls them “zombie children,” having “no cure” and “no future.”
First the victims become restless, can’t concentrate. They say they have trouble thinking. Then comes the nodding, an uncontrollable dipping of the head that presages the disease’s debilitating epilepsy-like seizures. It is this nodding motion that gives the illness its name.

The Boggy Creek Monster: The Fouke Monster

The Fouke Monster, also known as the Southern Sasquatch, is a legendary cryptid reported near the town of Fouke in Miller County, Arkansas during the early 1970s, where it was accused of attacking a local family. Initial sightings of the creature were concentrated in the Jonesville/Boggy Creek area, where it was blamed for the death of local livestock. Later, sightings were made several hundred miles to the north and the east of Fouke.

The creature was named by journalist Jim Powell, who reported on it for the Texarkana Gazette and the Texarkana Daily News.

The Fouke Monster was also covered by the state desk headed by Norman L. Richardson of the Shreveport Times. It has been the subject of several films and a number of books.

Massive drill in Mexico coincides with real earthquake

The government of the state of Chiapas had prepared for today at 12:00 a massive drill ("mega simulacro") of a 7.9 earthquake in the Richter scale.

Monterrey - It was nothing but a moment of panic, as there are no lost lives, the president of Mexico Felipe Calderón Hinojosa confirmed today in Monterrey, commenting on the 7.8 earthquake in the Richter scale with epicenter in the borders of the state of Guerrero and that was felt in Mexico City and several other states.

In view of the scale of the event and because there have not been any lost lives, it is noteworthy that the government of the state of Chiapas had prepared precisely for today at 12:00 a massive drill ("mega simulacro") of the earthquake - something that is being actively discussed in social media networks.

The objective of the drill is to test the response capability of the State System of Civil Protection and General Population in the event of a large-scale disturbing phenomenon. Its official web page stated that the exercise would enable the evaluation and feedback of action protocols in case of an earthquake.

"Earthquake Drill of 7.9 degrees", could be read on the title of the promotion of the event, which was expected to involve all the population at that time.

It should be noted that the National Sismological Service (SSN) informed today that the 7.8 earthquake in the Richter scale was registered at 12:03 local time (18:03 GMT) and its epicenter was located at 29 kilometers south of Ometepec, in the southern state of Guerrero, at a depth of 15 kilometers.

Therefore, it is suprising that the planned time of the massive drill was only a three-minute difference from the time of the real earthquake, and that the drill was for a 7.9 while the real one was 7.8 - only a 0.1 difference.

The massive drill, organized by the state government of Chiapas, had announced and planned it since the beginning of February.

Whitney’s spirit haunts our home at night and talks to me, says daughter

Whitney Houston’s daughter claims she is haunted at night by the spirit of her mother.

Speaking for the first time since Houston’s death a month ago, Bobbi Kristina told Oprah Winfrey she feels her mother’s presence all the time.

In an extraordinary interview, the 19-year-old said: “Throughout the house, lights turn on and off, and I’m like, ‘mum, what are you doing?’ I can still laugh with her and still talk to her. I can hear her voice telling me to ‘keep moving, baby, I’ve got you’. I can always feel her with me.”

Bobbi Kristina was taken to hospital twice when she broke down after her mother’s death at the age of 48 in her hotel bathroom. She says the grief now comes over her in waves, but she’s bolstered by her mother’s spirit.

“I feel her passing through me all the time,” she said. “I wake up at night. She would say at 5am the saints start praying. Every night I wake up and look at the clock and it’s 5am. I start praying.

Man can't stop laughing after hip surgery

(CBS News) A Dutch man who underwent hip surgery reportedly can't stop bursting into laughter almost every time he talks, The Daily Mail reports, much to the chagrin of his wife.
Huug Bosse underwent hip surgery two years ago and now can't stop cracking up no matter how hard he tries.

"It appears that due to the operation, due to the anesthesia, he was laughing more," Bosse's wife told the Dutch TV show Man Bijt Hond. "When you are having a discussion and all he does is laughing, then it gets annoying."

It's not all smiles for Bosee, however. Once in awhile when he hears the Dutch national anthem, he bursts into tears.

Can this bizarre behavior be explained by a medical condition?

Dr. Erik Pioro, a neurologist at The Cleveland Clinic who is not involved in the man's care told HealthPop in an email, that this case looks like a "classic occurrence" of a condition called pseudobulbar affect, or PBA. PBA is a neurological disorder that causes inappropriate emotional outbursts. People with multiple sclerosis or a traumatic brain injury may experience the condition.

Pioro says the condition is characterized by explosive laughter and a "contrary valence," like crying during a particular emotional response.

"It would be fascinating to check his brain MRI for evidence of a stroke," or other brain trauma, Pioro said.

If the condition is causing this effect, there may be hope. In 2010, the drug Nuedexta was FDA-approved for treating PBA, the first drug of its kind, WebMD reported.
