The Falcon Lake UFO
Falcon Lake Incident
The Falcon Lake Incident occurred on May 20, 1967, when Stefan Michalak claimed that he encountered a unidentified flying object (UFO) near Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada. He claimed to have been burned by the craft's exhaust vent, which was in an ovular grid pattern
The Incident
Shortly after 12:00 noon Michalak’s concentration was disturbed by a noise similar to geese’s grunts. When he looked up, he spotted two cigar-shaped objects, which were red and brilliant as fire. They were descending at 45 degrees, as calculated by the witness. He also noticed that the closer they came the more oval they became.
One of the objects stopped in the air, while the other landed on a big rock 160 feet away from Michalak. After some moments, the object floating above Michalak changed its colour to grey, and then flew directly west, disappearing through the clouds. The landed object also changed to grey, and then to a colour similar to incandescent stainless steel.
From the interior opening of the object, some violet light rays were emitted. As Michalek was using special glasses to examine the quartz, the rays didn’t affect him. The object had a sulfurous smell, and a humming noise.
Half an hour passed, and Michalak still was observing the unknown craft. Suddenly, a door opened and he could see that the interior of the UFO was very illuminated. He approached some meters and heard some voices coming from inside the ship.
Believing that the object was an experimental flying object, he tried to make contact in English. As no answers were given, he tried other languages in vain. Nervous, he walked to the open door, and saw a panel and some lights inside the ship.
He did not see anybody, so he waited. Suddenly, the door closed. Despite the surprise, he discovered a colourful glass around the UFO. It was very well-conserved, with no cracks. He attempted to touch it, but his glove simply melted, the heat hurting his hand through the glove's protection.
Quietly, a metallic box full of holes got off the UFO, what seemed to be a grid-like exhaust vent. A steamy explosion occurred, and some kind of gas was expelled in his direction. Immediately, his clothes started to burn. As the object flew after the other one, Michalak was left behind desperately trying to extinguish the fire.

UFO or not UFO: that is the question
Our reaction to this was stunned silence. What was it we had seen? My belief was that it was a vehicle leaving earth orbit. I did check the papers that day (no such thing as the internet in those days) and couldn’t find any evidence of a launch by NASA. Now that’s not to say there were no launches. The former USSR and the US military could well have launched a spy satellite and wouldn’t have advertised the fact in the local paper.
That was my first UFO. The second came on an equally sunny and cloudless summer afternoon.
It was about twenty years later and I was walking home from my local shops in Rotherham. Again, I was looking at the sky – something I do a lot, I must say. I happened to notice, again, a bright star in the sky. This was at about one o’clock on a Sunday afternoon. The object was really bright and quite large for a star. I assumed it was a planet, but couldn’t believe I could see a planet in such a clear sky at that time of day. Then the object moved. I was standing still, watching this object for a couple of minutes, when it simply shot across the sky extremely fast and disappeared. Gob smacked would be an apt description. That ‘encounter’ has stayed very vivid in my mind.
The third encounter was witnessed by myself and a scene of crime police officer.
It was another sunny day, but slightly hazy and with a little bit of cloud. I was at home, outside my house, where the scene of crime officer was dusting my car for fingerprints. It had been stolen a couple of days before and the police had kindly found it for me and told me where to collect it. The scene of crime officer was telling me how easy it is to steal my make of car, giving me pause for thought about my wisdom in choosing to buy a Vauxhall Astra, when I looked up into the sky. What I briefly saw was a huge object passing over us. ‘What on earth is that?’ I said. The officer said, ‘What’s what?’ I looked down at her and said, ‘That, in the sky above us.’ We both looked up as the object moved slowly above us. What I could see was something that had depth to it. I was big and sort of egg shaped. It seemed to have what I can only describe as aerials sticking out of it. It reminded me of the big mother ship in ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’.
The scene of crime officer and I looked down and looked at each other. I could see in her eyes that she too had seen something unusual. We both looked up again… and it had gone. That was my last encounter in the UK and it was about five years ago.
My wife and I moved to Cyprus a year ago and since that time I have seen three UFOs The latter happened about three days ago and was altogether startling and bewildering and was seen by both my wife and I. The first two were a little tamer, but nonetheless startling.
It was late evening and quite dark in August 2009. We were on our veranda looking across the valley. We live in the hills above Paphos and the stars at night are very striking and the Milky Way is something to behold. We occasionally see shooting stars and have a good view of the ISS at certain times of the year.

Paranormal Searchers: Live Feed Halloween Night
Paranormal Searchers will be doing a live feed from Trent's Gifts shop (Formerly the Buckaroo Saloon) in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Trent's Gifts is the site of two murders and one unexplained death while it was a saloon. While on the initial investigation, we witnessed items being rearranged and a feelings of a presence watching us. We will be doing a full investigation complete with closed circuit TV and nightvision.History and Background of Ruidoso, New Mexico
Ruidoso and its tumultuous start...
Captain Henry Stanton was one of the first to arrive to Ruidoso country in January 1855. He had his orders to come up from Fort Fillmore (an outpost near the Las Cruces vicinity) to join forces with Captain R. E. Ewell. Their mission was to carry out an expedition to find the bands of Apaches that stole some 2,500 sheep. Captain Stanton may have been the very first Anglo to come upon the "Noisy River" (translated: Ruidoso)...the Ruidoso River would eventually lend its very name to the village that surrounded it. The Spaniards were supposedly the very first to discover the Ruidoso Valley...followed by the Mescalero Apache with settlements throughout the valley.
Captain Henry Stanton was killed during his mission which led to the establishment of Fort Stanton in 1855. This Fort was integral to settling the Ruidoso Valley by providing protection and enforcing law and order.
The Ruidoso River was also the pull for Paul Dowlin...of whom was a Civil War veteran. He was a member of the New Mexico Volunteers and, during his enlistment, he also worked as a post trader for Fort Stanton (located between Lincoln and Ruidoso). After his run with the NMV, he received a homestead of 160 acres...as did many other veterans of the Civil War. Through a land purchase grant, he acquired another 600 acres. This land encompassed much of where the Ruidoso village resides today. His purpose, to start a planing mill (for wood) by channeling the river's force, from both Carrizo Creek and the "Noisy River"...his efforts were stifled since the water's force fell short to power up for the wood mill. He converted the mill for grinding grain to match the river's energy. In its earliest days, Ruidoso itself became known as "Dowlin's Mill."
Dowlin met his doom, May 5, 1877, by one of his very own former employees. Jerry Dillon shot an unarmed Dowlin for reasons unknown. Dillon left for Texas never to be heard from again.

Green Alert Environmentalists on hunger strike
Members of environmental group Green Alert Negros on Tuesday started a hunger strike to convince the provincial government of Negros Occidental to keep the ban on products with genetically-modified organisms in the province.
Racquel de los Santos of the Green Alert Negros said six of their members went on hunger strike, which, she said, will end only after the provincial government has decided not to lift the ban.
De los Santos said they will be camping in front of the provincial capitol.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod is fine tuning its draft as it plans to amend an ordinance banning GMO products ordinance in the province.
Negros Occidental Vice-Governor Emilio Yulo III said medicines and feeds with GMO content might be exempted from the ban. The site they are protecting also contains an ancient ruin rumored to be haunted.
Ten Great Places to Sleep With a Ghost
Similarly, a current BedandBreakfast.com consumer survey showed that 20% of travelers seek a haunted inn for Halloween, so those who seek experiences with the world beyond can rest assured that they’ll have a good chance of sleeping with a ghost. For a complete list of Halloween packages and over 100 great places to sleep with a ghost, visit http://www.BedandBreakfast.com and click Sleep with a Ghost. In alpha order by state, here is a sampling of B&B ghost stories:
Gate House Inn, Jackson, CA: A “Garden Ghost” appeared soon after overgrowth around the mansion was cleared away for new gardens. Although no paranormal activity has been reported inside, the surrounding land has a ghostly presence.
Kehoe House B&B, Savannah, GA: This B&B is reputed to be haunted by the ghosts of twin Kehoe children who may have died while playing in one of the house’s fireplaces (now blocked up). Many sightings of the ghosts and the night-time sounds of children laughing and playing are detailed on the inn’s website.
Old Bridge Inn, Jeffersonville, IN: Guests have seen floating objects, canes picked up and twirled around, tea cups floating across the room and candles being raised up then down on their own. A small dog named Buttons has also been seen.
Deerfield Inn, Deerfield, MA: Flashing lights, knocks on doors when no one is there, moving books, and tables moved into the middle of the room are regular occurrences, especially in rooms 48, 43 and 41. The ghost is believed to be the original owner of the house, Cora Carlisle, still hanging around as the inn celebrates 125 years of history.
Coach Stop Inn, Bar Harbor, ME: This former tavern is home to Abbe, a spirited little girl who loves music. Strange noises, flickering lights and fleeting reflections may either be Abbe singing or additional spirits.
Bingham Hall B&B, New Ulm, MN: A man named Jake has been seen by innkeepers standing in the doorway, never going in or out. Additionally, guests feel a presence of someone watching, say the doors open by themselves, and hear noises.
Ghost Rails Inn, Alberton, MT: The railroading days live on in the form of a phantom brakeman, still awaiting his call upstairs in the old hotel, according to the tales of those who’ve seen him.
Carambola Inn B&B, Fuquay-Varina, NC: Both the distinctive scent of perfume plus a report of a friendly woman seen hovering about five inches off the ground indicate that former residents still linger on.
Mary-Penn B&B, Gettysburg, PA: A paranormal group recorded horse noises and voices in their basement, and from time to time guests claim to experience friendly spirits.
By The Side Of The Road Bed and Breakfast, Harrisonburg, VA: When the innkeeper went to turn off the basement light, an unseen presence grabbed her hand. Footsteps are mysteriously heard in hallways, and doors open and close on their own.
Mystery noise drives couple from UK home
Brian and Jane Williams, from Treaddur Bay, Anglesey, say they are plagued by ill health and have been forced to move to live in a caravan.
But despite extensive investigations by Welsh Water and Anglesey council, no cause of the noise could be traced.
Investigations into the couple's complaints have ended.
The couple say their problems began after Welsh Water carried out upgrade works to the sewage system in 2004/5.
Welsh Water say it has found no fault with its equipment.
Mr Williams said they first noticed the noise towards the end of May 2005.
"We were in the kitchen and we turned round to each other and said there's that noise again," he said.
"Then a couple of days passed and the noise was still there, a sort of reverberating noise - like a heavy goods lorry on a slow erratic tick-over or a generator," he added.
As time went on Mrs Williams said they began suffering with other issues.
"We were coughing a lot, we were gagging and retching. We felt our sinuses and our ears were hurting," she said.
"It slowly built up and became more and more debilitating."
Both said their bowels were affected and dishes they had enjoyed eating for years "we could no longer tolerate".
Illness
"It got to the point where we were very, very ill," said Mrs Williams.
After nine months, they moved out to live in a caravan, and say they cannot contemplate moving back because even being in the house for a short period bring the symptoms back, she added.
Now they only return to their home to feed the cat and collect the post each day.
"It's traumatic and our lives have been destroyed," said Mr Williams.
Investigations
Over the years, Anglesey council's environmental health department has looked into it, as well as Dwr Cymru.
The water company said it had spent several months looking into the couple's complaints.
"We are completely satisfied that the matter has been fully investigated and that our equipment is not at fault," said the company in a statement.
Anglesey council's environmental health department said it had spent a considerable time investigating the matter and monitoring noise levels.
The department said it did not find anything of significance that could explain the couple's complaints.
A lot of time and money had been spent, said the council, and the investigation was now at an end.
UFO hacker charged with $700,000 bill for damages
The US had not taken reasonable steps to protect its security and now expects McKinnon to pick up the bill, said an expert witness statement made in McKinnon's ongoing appeal against a US extradition order.
Peter Sommer, professor of security at the London School of Economics, said damage assessments of computer security breaches should consider "whether the victims have taken reasonable steps to limit the damage".
McKinnon had used Remotely Anywhere, a software tool, to hack US military computers in search of UFO secrets. The 42-year-old faces extradition after being accused of hacking into 97 US government computers causing $700,000 of damage.
But Sommer said, "Every intrusion detection system I have come across would flag up the installation of a remote control program like Remotely Anywhere.
"Any firewall also ought to block the 'ports' [internet access points on a computer] used by Remotely Anywhere. On this basis, the costs claimed for are features that should have been there in the first place."
Sommer, who once advised insurers underwriting the risks of computer damage, said hackers could not be held accountable for the "consequential loss" resulting from their intrusion into systems unprotected by "preventative measures for reasonably foreseeable hazards".
"Insurers will not insure computers or computer-dependent businesses in the absence of reasonable levels of protection and means of recovery," he said.
But security experts in the US said McKinnon should be liable for the full $700,000 of security checks performed in his wake.
Professor Eugene Spafford, founder of the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security at Indiana's Purdue University, said the victim of a cybercrime should not take the blame. If someone broke a door to rob a store, he said, it was usual to charge them the cost of the door.
Anthony Reyes, a former cybercrime detective who helped develop the US Cyber Counter Terrorism Investigations Program, said, "Just because security is weak, it doesn't give you a red flag to go into a computer system and start browsing around."

New Circlemakers Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery
Upcoming Show: 9/24/2009 2:00 PM (EDT)
Host Name: jsforeman
Show Name: New Circlemakers Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery
Length: 1 hr
Description: Join Jacqueline Foreman as she interviews Andrew Collins LIVE from the UK about his newest book New Circlemakers Insights into the Crop Circle Mystery (official release date 11/16/09! It's not even out yet, but I've got it and it was quite a read! Crop circles are patterns created by the flattening of crops such as wheat, barley, rye, or corn. The term crop circle was first used by Collins to describe simple circles he was researching. While patterns involving complex geometries have been observed, the term circle has stuck as a generic term for crop patterns. Various alternative hypotheses have been offered to explain the formation of crop circles such as the paranormal. It has also been suggested that ball lightning and vortices in the wind might rarely produce isolated indentations in crops. Join us to find out more about this phenomenon.

Church converted into heavenly bookstore
DesignTopNews.com -- The contemporary building interior of the Bookstore Selexyz Dominicanen was designed by Merkx+Girod architects in Maastricht, Netherlands for the Dutch booksellers Selexyz Dominicanen. Merkx+Girod were commissioned by the Dutch booksellers to convert the interior of the former Dominican Church in Maastricht into a modern bookstore. For the same client M+G had previously designed two bookstores in The Hague and Almere. The unique location in Maastricht however asked for a very different approach. The store demanded 1,200 sq m of commercial area where only 750 were available.
The initial idea of the client to install a second floor within the church was rejected by the designers, because this would completely destroy the spatial qualities of the church. The solution was found in the creation of a monumental walk-in bookcase spanning several floors and situated a-symmetrically in the church. In doing so the left side of the church remained empty while on the other side customers are lead upstairs in the three- storey ‘Bookflat.’
The ground floor gives room to several different book displays, information desks, magazine-stands and cash registers, all made of standard sheet materials in different colours and surfaces. The Dutch architects Merkx + Girod have won the Lensvelt de Architect Interior Prize 2007 for their Boekhandel Selexyz Dominicanen in Maastricht – a bookstore inside a former Dominican church.

Vampire Craze
You could be forgiven for thinking we're in the midst of an unprecedented madness for vampires. "True Blood Season Premiere Looking to Capitalize Off of Vampire Craze," headlined the Associated Press in June. "CW joins vampire trend with 'Diaries'," announced the Philadelphia Inquirer last week. The Hartford Courant asks, "Why Vampires Now?"
A better question might be, why vampires ever? Looking back, it's hard to think of a period when we weren't in the middle of a vampire craze. In the late 1970s, Anne Rice started raking in the money with Interview With the Vampire, and movies like Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre and the comedy Love at First Bite were critical hits. Then came The Lost Boys, Near Dark, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Innocent Blood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie), four more Anne Rice books, and Interview With the Vampire (the movie)—which could all be lumped into a rage for vampires that lasted clear through from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. Vampires were back again in the mid-1990s, with Buffy (the TV show), the Blade movies, Southern Vampire Mysteries (the book series), and From Dusk Till Dawn. And now we've arrived at the highly touted mid- to late-2000s vogue of Underworld, Twilight (books and movies), True Blood (based on Southern Vampire Mysteries), and The Vampire Diaries.
So perhaps instead of talking about vampire crazes, we should really be talking about vampire droughts. The brief, anomalous periods when few or perhaps even no vampire movies, books, or TV shows are produced at all. The Garlic Years.
To figure out whether there really have been any vampire-free periods, we dug through online compendiums, from Wikipedia to obsessive fan sites like the Vampire Library, and compiled a list of the most important vampire-related books, films, and TV shows of the last half-century. In total, we included 169 movies, 106 books, and 62 seasons' worth of TV.
It turns out there were indeed a few periods—four, to be precise—where the vampire genre seemed to hit a mini-recession. Here's a rundown of each dry spell and the vampire works that brought the genre back from the dead.

Dust Storm Armageddon in Australia
The huge dust storm which has settled over the city and much of New South Wales was carried east overnight by gale-force winds of up to 100kph.
This morning the weather bureau said the dust cloud was expected to hang around until late afternoon.
Senior forecaster Barry Hanstrum says more high winds are on the way and could cause more damage.
"The winds won't drop off until later today and when they do we think that the dust haze will start to clear," he said.
"The weather system that generated the dust yesterday is associated with gale force winds and the area which is most likely to be affected today is the Wollongong-Greater Sydney region and the Hunter Valley-Newcastle area.
"The winds at times during the morning will average 65kph, which is gale force, with some stronger squally gusts up to about 90-100kph."
The dust reduced visibility across the city and large parts of the state, with callers to ABC Radio saying the scene looked like something from the end of the world.
The bureau has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds in Sydney and other parts of NSW, with a gale warning issued for Sydney closed waters.
Environmental Health director Dr Wayne Smith says people in poor health, especially those with asthma and heart and lung disease should remain indoors.
He says children with health problems, as well as older adults and pregnant women, should also take precautions and people should avoid heavy exercise.
'Like Armageddon'
Karen from Dulwich Hill, in Sydney's inner west, says she woke up to find the red dust had covered her floors and birds had been blown out of their nests.
"It did feel like Armageddon because when I was in the kitchen looking out the skylight, there was this red, red glow coming through," she said.
Mick told ABC Online: "In Sydney's south-western suburbs I've just woken up to a glowing red window! Thought it was Armageddon! Either that or South Korea [sic] had nuked us!"
Another ABC Online contributor wrote in: "Red. Dusty. Making hard to breath... There are baby birds dead in our backyard. And our cat's gone missing."
Another listener says her lakeside vista has been replaced by a desert view. Others have commented on how birds are struggling to cope with the haze, with some "falling out of the sky".
Another said: "I went out for a ride on my bicycle and I ended up looking like a red panda."
Caller Mary spoke about a dust storm she saw in 1939: "I was 13 years of age and I lived in Leichhardt," she said. "I remember I walked to my aunt's place and you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. The colour was a sort of yellowy-brown."
