The principal belief in Haitian Vodou is that there are various deities, or Loa, who are subordinate to a greater God, known as Bondyè, who does not interfere with human affairs. Therefore it is to the loa that Vodou worship is directed. Other characteristics of Vodou include ancestor worship and protection against evil witchcraft.
Haitian Vodou shares many similarities with other faiths of the African diaspora, such as Louisiana Voodoo of New Orleans, Santería and Arará of Cuba, and Candomblé and Umbanda of Brazil. The Vodou temple is called a Hounfour.

Project Plans Resurrection Of The Woolly Mammoth
A team of Japanese genetic scientists aims to bring woolly mammoths back to life and create a Jurassic Park-style refuge for resurrected species. The team of scientists, which is not associated with the exhibit, wants to do more than just put a carcass on display. They aim to revive the Ice Age plant-eaters, 10,000 years after they went extinct.

Ghost 'caught' on Packhorse Bridge
Ghost hunters from Cheshire Paranormal Society (CPS) took this photo during an investigation on the historic Packhorse Bridge in the village of Caergwrle, near Wrexham, the scene of a number of sightings. Does it show a ghost?This ghostly figure is standing on the Packhorse Bridge, Caergwrle, near Wrexham, according to Cheshire Paranormal Society chairman John Millington. At the time members hadn't realised what was apparently standing on the bridge in front of them, but some group members had reported feeling uneasy and other paranormal activity was also recorded, such as so-called orbs of light. Through further study and assistance from members of Hope and Caergwrle Heritage Society, it's thought three ghosts haunt the bridge; a young girl and two women.
African albino murder convictions
One person has been sentenced to life in prison and eight others to jail in Burundi over the murder of albinos whose remains were sold for witchcraft.
Three other suspects were acquitted by the court in Ruyigi province over the the killings of at least 12 albinos.

World's Largest Squid Captured
Fishermen in New Zealand may have captured the largest Colossal squid ever recorded. It may be the first time a Colossal squid has been seen alive.
The beast, weighing 450 kilograms (990 pounds), was eating a Patagonian toothfish (Chilean sea bass) hooked by fishermen when it was captured in the deep, frigid waters in the Ross Sea near Antarctica. The squid was reported to be 10 meters (33 feet) in length and took more than two hours to land.
