The Cult of Holy Death

Time.com
is reporting that the Catholic Church is denouncing The Santa Murete as a Satanic Cult.

La Santisima Muerte is a "banned saint," the Roman Catholic "cover" for an ancient Aztec goddess named Mictecacihuatl, a death goddess and co-ruler, with her husband, of the underworld.
In the days just before Easter, the Mexican government bulldozed nearly 40 shrines to La Santisima Muerte (Holy Death) along the U.S./Mexico border. The shrines, according to the military, formed an integral part of the "narco-culture" that the government is determined to wipe out. Does devotion to Santa Muerte reflect the "death cult of the drug lords," as Kevin Freese of U.S. military intelligence suggests?
